Sharing the Latest Advances in Parkinson’s Research

Third «pHysiopathology Of Parkinson’s disEase » (HOPE) Meeting Bordeaux, January 29-31, 2025

HOPE 2025 will provide an overview of the latest developments on the genetic and environmental determinants of Parkinson’s disease, and their molecular mechanisms and modeling. The aim of the conference is to promote a better understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease, as well as new perspectives in the fields of preclinical, clinical, imaging and biomarker research. This meeting will therefore bring together thought leaders from different fields and the national and European community to provide a forum for sharing the latest advances and for cross-disciplinary discussion and collaboration.

Program

We are pleased to invite you to present your work at the 3rd «pHysiopathology Of Parkinson’s disEase » (HOPE) Meeting, which we are organising. This 2-day meeting will be held in Bordeaux, France, on January 30 – 31, 2025. A public lecture will be held on January 29, 2025

Venue | Bordeaux city host

Bordeaux, a city where cultural diversity meets timeless charm, welcomes you with open arms. Situated along the Garonne River, this vibrant port city has been shaped by a multitude of cultural influences, creating an inclusive and dynamic atmosphere. Its architectural wonders recognized by UNESCO, the nearby Dune du Pilat – Europe’s largest sand dune, and a culinary scene that revels in fine food and wine, ensure a memorable experience for all.

As the regional capital of south-west France, Bordeaux is just a two-hour TGV high-speed train ride away from Paris. Its prime location places it a mere 45 minutes from the sea, a two-hour drive from Spain, and a three-hour journey from the breathtaking Pyrenees. The city’s exceptional quality of life and numerous tourist attractions have earned it a well-deserved reputation as a top destination.

Recognized worldwide as the wine capital, Bordeaux lends its name to France’s oldest and most prestigious wine.

Bordeaux’s rich history is evident in the streets that lie behind the impressive 18th-century buildings along the quays. Former port warehouses have been revitalized into stylish museums and breweries, easily accessible via the scenic riverbank footpaths, whether you prefer to explore by foot, bicycle, or rollerblades. In Bordeaux, the past and present seamlessly merge, from the historic Saint Michel to the Chartrons, and from Saint Seurin to Saint Pierre.

Alpha-synuclein in the enteric nervous system: a predictive marker of PD?

Pascal DERKINDEREN

CHU NANTES

Lewy pathology in Parkinson disease (PD) extends well beyond the CNS, also affecting peripheral autonomic neuronal circuits, especially the enteric nervous system (ENS). The ENS is an integrative neuronal network also referred to as « the brain in the gut » because of its similarities to the CNS. We have recently shown that the ENS can be readily analyzed using routine colonic biopsies. This led us to propose that the ENS could represent a unique window to assess the neuropathology in living patients with PD. In this perspective, we discuss current evidence which indicates that the presence of ENS pathology may by exploited to improve our understanding and management of PD and likely other neurodegenerative disorders.
